Criminalisation de l’action politique : 7200 personnes détenues pour des motifs politiques en Colombie
Du 1er au 9 novembre 2009, Le Projet Accompagnement Solidarité Colombie (PASC) tiendra une série de rencontres et événements publics en compagnie d’un-e membre de la Fondation Comité de Solidarité avec les Prisonniers-ères Politiques (FCSPP), section de Santander. Des événements devraient se tenir à Montréal, Ottawa, Toronto, et Québec.
Alors que les crimes d’État sont de plus en plus banalisés sur la scène internationale dans un contexte où la sécurité prime sur les droits individuels et collectifs, le discours médiatique qui tend à façonner l’opinion publique fait trop souvent un dangereux amalgame entre luttes populaires et terrorisme. De militants pour les droits et la justice sociale, des membres de mouvements sociaux deviennent ainsi aux yeux du public des criminels, voir de potentiels terroristes.
Avec cette tournée sur le thème de la criminalisation de l’action politique, le PASC désire contribuer à l’analyse des conséquences qu’ont les politiques et pratiques de sécurité sur les mouvements sociaux, dans un contexte mondial dominé par le discours sur la lutte anti-terroriste.

From October 27th to November 9th 2009, “Projet Accompagnement Solidarité Colombie” (Project Accompaniment and Solidarity Colombia) PASC, will be hosting a series of public meetings and events featuring members from the Santander section of the “Fondación Comité de Solidaridad con los Presos Políticos” (Committee of Solidarity with Political Prisoners) FCSPP. In a world obsessed with our individual and collective security, where state crimes are becoming more commonplace on the international scene, the discourse of the mainstream media too often conflates voices of dissent and popular struggle with terrorism. Social justice activists and human rights defenders have become potential terrorists in the eyes of the public.
With this series themed on the criminalization of political activity, PASC seeks to illuminate the consequences of security practices on social movements, especially in a global context dominated by the anti-terrorist discourse of the West.

As state-sponsored crimes are being increasingly normalized on a global scale, and national security is taking precedence over individual and collective rights, the media often plays a critical role in constructing public opinion by not distinguishing between popular resistance and terrorism. Organizing for social, environmental and human rights is portrayed as engaging in criminal acts, and terrorism.
As part of a Canadian tour, a member of the Political Prisoners Solidarity Committee of Colombia, will join Montreal groups - PASC, Tadamon!, Indigenous Solidarity Committee, Certain Days, and the People’s Commission Network - in a public discussion about the consequences that the "War on Terror" security policies and practices have on social movements.
What impact does the anti-terrorism discourse have on our organizations and the communities in which we work?
How can social and political organizations resist the injustices perpetuated by repressive regimes in Palestine and Colombia?
Why do Canadian intelligence agencies identify indigenous organizations as potential terrorist threats when they defend their inherent right to self-determination?
How does the “War on Terror” discourse serve to justify the implementation of laws which threaten fundamental rights and sanction racial and political profiling?
How does the ’Witch Hunt’, carried out by the West in the name of combating terrorism, justify and normalize practices of state-sponsored terrorism such as torture?
This discourse, which aims to associate resistance and social movements with terrorism in order to delegitimize – and even criminalize – political action, poses new challenges to social movements. We invite you to join the discussion and reflection. We hope to stimulate ideas and strategies in order to reaffirm the legitimacy of our actions and identity when faced with the potential criminalization of our organizations and the struggles we are involved in and support.

Certain Days: Freedom for Political Prisoners Calendar. CRIMINALIZACION DE LA ACCION POLITICA.
7200 personas detenidas por motivos políticos en Colombia
Del 1ero al 9 de noviembre de 2009, el proyecto de acompañamiento y solidaridad Colombia -Le Projet Accompagnement Solidarité Colombie (PASC)- tendrá una serie de encuentro y eventos públicos en compañía de un miembro de la fundación comité de solidaridad con los prisioneros políticos (FCSPP), seccional Santander. Los eventos se realizaran en Montréal los 3 y 5 de noviembre, Ottawa el 6, Toronto el 7 y Québec el 4.
Mientras que los crímenes de Estado son cada vez más banalizados sobre la escena internacional dentro de un contexto donde la seguridad prima sobre los derechos individuales y colectivos, el discurso popular que tiende a moldear a la opinión pública hace a menudo una amalgama peligrosa entre luchas populares y terrorismo. Los militantes por los derechos y la justicia social, los miembros de movimientos sociales, se convierten así a los ojos del público en criminales y son vistos como potenciales terroristas.
Con esta actividad sobre la criminalización de la acción política el PASC desea contribuir al análisis de las consecuencias de las políticas y prácticas de seguridad sobre los movimientos sociales, dentro de un contexto mundial dominado por el discurso de la lucha antiterrorista.
